File Explorer disables multi-select for some or all folders
Whenever you are in the folder window, select the checkbox next to Multi-select. The default setting is to use checkboxes to select items, but you can also disable the feature for some or all folders. To do so, navigate to the folder you want to remove from the OneDrive library. To do this, navigate to the folder by clicking on the Home menu item in File Explorer. Click the New Folder button on the Home ribbon. Next, type a name for the new folder. If you want to select multiple files, hold down the Shift or Ctrl keys while selecting multiple files.
Next, click the right-pointing triangle next to the folder name. This indicates that the folder has multiple subfolders. Clicking the triangle displays more information about the folder, such as how many files are in it. In the right-pointing triangle, click the folder name to view its subfolders. Then, select a folder and click on it. It will display the details of each item.
In Windows 10, you can also disable multi-select for some or all of your folders in File Explorer by clicking Ctrl+Shift+6 on the keyboard. Double-click or right-click on the protected.reg file, then click “Merge into the local registry” (yes) to proceed. Afterward, you can restart File Explorer to use the protected.reg file again.
Linked duplicates option in a Photo app
You can easily delete duplicate photos from OneDrive by disabling the Linked duplicates option in the Photos app. Then you can choose another folder to store your photos in, and delete them from OneDrive. This process is simple, but not foolproof. You’ll have to be vigilant about the files you sync. Here are some tips to make the process as painless as possible.
Go to the ‘Photo’ app on your PC. Click on the Linked Duplicates option at the bottom-right corner of the app window. Select the photos that you want to delete. You will see a list of duplicates in the app. Press ‘Delete’ to delete the files. To confirm, press ‘Delete’ again. You will be asked to confirm if you want to delete the duplicates.

Next, choose the folders you want to remove duplicate photos from. Then, tap ‘Scan for Duplicates’. Duplicates will appear in groups of similar or near-identical photos. If you want to delete exact duplicates, select ‘Auto Mark’. Otherwise, you can choose to keep one original photo from each group. After selecting the marked duplicates, choose ‘Delete’ to delete the photos you want to keep.
Delete backed-up files from OneDrive
You can’t delete backed-up files from OneDrive permanently, but you can restore deleted files from the internal backups of the service. You can use OneDrive Live to see deleted files that you’ve backed up within the last 30 days. It will show the original location, date, and type of file that was deleted. To restore files, click on the folder you deleted and select the file you want to restore.
To delete backed-up files from OneDrive, first determine what files you want to remove. This step is particularly important if the files you’re trying to remove were shared with other people. Make sure you don’t delete shared files by accident. It also helps to get organized before you delete your files. For example, if you deleted photos and videos that were created using the same app, you may want to create a separate folder to keep the unused files.
Once you’ve backed-up files to OneDrive, you can move the files into a local folder on your PC. Open Files Explorer and navigate to the OneDrive folder. Select the files you’d like to move to your PC and delete the rest. After 30 days, you’ll be able to restore deleted files. It’s that easy! There’s no reason not to back-up files, so get started today!
